Caravana Sun was born in 2009 with the musical union of Luke Carra, Alex Dumbrell and Ant Beard. Since the inception of the band a reputation has been built for first-class live shows laden with dance worthy boppy reggae grooves and down to earth soulful lyrics, the close-knit high-energy surfing troupe has previously charmed audiences (under the moniker CARRA) at various festivals including Peats Ridge, Sydney Blues & Roots, Bridgetown Blues and Fete de la Musique (France). They also have a swag of brag worthy performances under their belt in France, Italy, London, Amsterdam and Malta, and have played with the likes of Ash Grunwald, The Whitlams, C.W. Stoneking and eMDee.
Hailing inspiration from the gypsy culture of southern France to the mystery of Ord River in the Northern Territory, the earthy collective take adoring audiences on a soul moving, body invigorating journey through the world’s cultures. Caravãna Sun are a frenetic fusion of surf, ambient, ska and world musical styles. Their first single, Feel Better, was released in June 2011 and not surprisingly, was spun on FBi and Triple J (who dubbed it “magic”).
Based in Sydney, Caravãna Sun launched their debut album Rising Falling at Bondi’s infamous Beach Road Hotel in October 2011. The hugely anticipated launch saw over 350 fans bouncing to their sun-filled grooves. The crowd love and adorning fan base continued to flourish and grow as Caravãna Sun set off to tour the West Coast of Australia at the end of 2011. Chasing the sun the Caravãna sets continued to blow the minds and energise the souls of new fans over the summer. Their East Coast Tour featured a mammoth line up of shows stretching to Sol Bar in Maroochydore and the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay.
Wherever the Caravãna Sun shines your ears will bask in their spiritually infused tunes for a performance that will have you up on your feet, releasing your inner gypsy and lifting your knees high - a dance move that has become synonymous for fans from the moment they first tune into the gypsy ska outfit.
Do not miss your chance to catch Caravana Sun’s next live show and get set for a toe-tapping, high knee, body rocking performance from the unquestionably talented and insatiably spirited Caravãna Sun, featuring frontman Luke Carra, Ant Beard on bass, Alex Dumbrell on drums and Dan Moore on trumpet.
